rhino tempest bay

Ah, summer. That time of sticky sunshine, outings to the beach, hot dogs aplenty, bug repellant, and (hopefully) lots of booze-filled evenings. Summer’s hit Telara by storm starting today with the arrival of Summerfest– RIFT‘s celebration of the warm days, the cool nights, the great outdoors, and the prospect of adventure.

Summerfest has more to offer this year with the arrival of new Storm Legion scavenger hunts, achievements, rewards, pets, and swimwear to grab, a new zone event, and special Daily Login Gifts that have a chance of rewarding bonus Credits and Summerfest goodies. There are also all of the returning scavenger hunts, rewards, daily quests, and companions to capture and complete from last year. This guide will cover all of the updates made this year. If you’re new to RIFT, make sure to check out our guide from last year, which covers the scavenger hunts and quests that take place in non-Storm Legion zones.

Notes: This information was taken from the Public Test Shard (PTS), so everything may not be exactly what you see on our live shards. If you notice that something needs to be corrected, drop us a line in the comments section. This guide is still in progress. Some of the scavenger hunt information isn’t fully complete. When I did my testing, quite a few of the hunt objectives were still somewhat buggy. We’ll provide updates as the event unfolds on live shards, but feel free to provide additional information.

Last Edited: 8/12/13Added some tips on how to navigate the bone maze.

New Quests and Achievements

dailie and weeklies

Darryl the bug man in Sanctum/Meridian has a new set of Capture quests in addition to last year’s daily quest to run out and squash bugs outside of the city. Capture Them All tasks players to go out to various Storm Legion zones and capture certain creatures. There are eight of these quests total along with a main quest to complete all eight. These quests were originally thought to be weeklies, but they, in fact, aren’t. Each separate quest rewards players with 25 Summerfest Merit Badges and counts for an achievement. The main quest grants players with a Summerfest Friendship Bracelet and 100 Summerfest Merit Badges.

The locations for the creatures are marked on the in-game map. They’re not too difficult to find, luckily. We’ll make note of the locations bellow in the scavenger hunt portion of the guide. All you’ll need to do is find one of the creatures, use the quest item (without attacking the mob), and then right click and loot the baby version of the mob that pops up afterwards.

The fishing/cooking/bug squashing dailies are still around. Two of the fishing dailies (one to fish 10 Sunfish and one to create 2 Sunfish Lures) are found in Tempest Bay as well as Sanctum/Meridian. Summer Sunfish pools are marked on the map with blue fish icons. Similar to last year, the rates on obtaining the rare fish from the pools seem fairly low.

There are a handful of new achievements this year including ones to complete the new Brevane/Dusken scavenger hunts, all of the Brevane/Dusken Capture quests, one to eradicate 300 Swarmbrood Creatures that are part of the new Exuvia of Khargroth zone event, and one to catch 100 Summer Sunfish in either Brevane or Dusken. There’s also a new meta achievement for completing all of the above which gives players a skunk pet by the much-appropriate name of Stinky.

New Rewards

Among this year’s new rewards, there are three new companion pets. Pictured below from left to right are:

summerfest pets

Snagglesooth (500 Merit Badges and 3 Friendship Bracelets (or 360 Credits)), Sunset (720 Credits (shop only)), and Starflare (1000 Summerfest Merit Badges and 3 Summerfest Friendship Bracelets (or 720 Credits)).

There are seven new level 60 epic rings that are comparable to T1 raid drops for 5000 Summerfest Merit Badges and 3 Summerfest Friendship Bracelets each (or 1152 Credits). Here are the stats on all of the rings:

summerfest epic rings 2

There are seven new level 60 epic planar essences for 4000 Summerfest Merit Badges and 3 Summerfest Friendship Bracelets each (or 1152 Credits).

There are also new packs of random Summerfest goodies that can be purchased with Credits.

Finally, there are a handful of new cosmetic and wardrobe items. First up, of course, is this year’s brand new swimwear selection. There are four suit sets total. Check out our full preview complete with screenshots of the suits on both genders for more information and prices.

Here are some previews of other interesting wardrobe/transfiguration items (shown from left to right below):

summerfest wardrobe items

Swawmlord’s Claw: Transfiguration 1h sword (800 Merit Badges or 176 Credits).
Swarmlord Khargorth’s Impalers: Wardrobe shoulders with odd claws (360 Credits or 500 Merit Badges and 2 Friendship Bracelets).
Summer’s Heat: Transfiguration Staff (800 Merit Badges or 176 Credits).

Storm Legion Scavenger Hunts

summerfest hunt header

Similar to the scavenger hunts from last year’s Summerfest (which are still in Meridian/Sanctum), there are two parts to the Storm Legion scavenger quests. Both Brevane and Dusken have two parts each, which make four total. Phase One of Summerfest will feature both Part 1 scavenger quests while Phase 2 will introduce the second set. Both sets will be listed below.

Each quest requires you to travel to various zones and seek out an NPC in each that will be conveniently marked on the map. You must complete their sometimes-cryptic challenge to then get credit. Each quest rewards one Summerfest Friendship Bracelet and 100 Summerfest Merit Badges. Luckily, once you complete the challenges, the quest will complete on-screen. Each of the smaller quests grants you with 25 Summerfest Merit Badges.

We’ll make a note of which quest objectives are closer to the capture weekly quest creature if applicable. Until Phase 2, you’ll have to seek them out separately. Not all zones have a corresponding creature.

Note: Spoilers ahead!

The Great Brevane Scavenger Hunt, Part 1

cape jule title 1

Cape Jule:
I’m Falling for Jule

  • Starts in:
East of Tayvia’s Campsite at around [7487 11579]. The NPC’s on top of a cliff overlooking the water, so you’ll have to go behind the hill and find a way up and around. I found a pretty easy way up on the back right-hand side of the hill, but there are probably multiple routes.
  • Description:
Hop down to where the waterfall begins and jump down through the green hoop. Keep following the stream southward until it drops down another ledge, and you’ll find another set of hoops. Keep following the stream and hopping through the hoops until the challenge completes. It may be easier to aim for the hoops while unmounted.

While you’re in the area, make sure to capture a Cliffside Rhino for the creature-hunting weekly.

bogling

City Core:
Smarter than the Average Bogling

  • Starts in:
Slightly southeast of The Raging Karthan Inn, facing the water. Coords: [6663, 9449].
  • Description:
Boglings, boglings. Where are there boglings in City Core? Check out the screenshots to the right for spoilers (click to enlarge). Alternatively, [7351, 8471] are the coordinates for around where you’ll find the basket. It’s in a bogling hut.

Eastern Holdings:
A Simple Bean

  • Starts in:
Southwest of Fen Gorge Bunker at around [8547, 9509]. Follow the path of spiders all the way back to the little ruined area.
  • Description:
You’re looking for a little mound of soil that’s sparkly and glowing green. There are multiple spawn locations all over Eastern Holdings. Here are a few known spawn points (there are probably more): [8033,8447], [8730, 7559] and [7865,9630].

Kingsward:
A Game of Chicken

  • Starts in:
The Academy, right next to the porticulum. Coords: [4687, 8502].
  • Description:
You’ll need to find six Feral Cockatrices around Kingsward and use /chicken on them to get them to lay and egg and run off. The cockatrices seem to spawn randomly, but there are a clump of nests along the walls around [4837, 9129] where you might be able to grab all of them. They don’t take too long to respawn luckily, though I can see this one being a hassle if there are a lot of people here. There is another another clump of nests at around [5557, 8258]. There may be other clumps as well. Using a macro with /tar feral cockatrice (or your favorite shortening of the last word) works extremely well.

Ardent Domain:
Fire in the Sky

  • Starts in:
Turnis River Bunker, right outside by the porticulum. Coords: [5626, 9438].
  • Description:
You’re looking for six blue, glowing orbs that set off fireworks. There are multiple possible spawn points. One possible location is directly outside Turnis River Bunker. There are additional possible globes in Soros Estate at [5268, 9594], in Dawnkeeper Vale at [6127, 9123], in Cassana Estate at [5997,10411], in Auditorium Carnos at [5284, 10281], and in Temple of Thontic at [4824, 9744].

Grab a Shadewing Bat while you’re running around. The bats are in Temple of Thontic.

Ashora:
Chasing the Rainbow

  • Starts in:
Above the waterfall just south of Nurjak Vostra at around [3982, 8288]. You’ll have to go around and above to find the NPC. Alternatively, approaching from Kingsward would work as well.
  • Description:
Multiple water locations will work for this one. One spawn point for the chest is around [2115, 6014] on top of a water plant. Another is at [2050, 7211]. The rainbows may have to be found during the daylight hours in-game, but more confirmation is needed.

Grab a Sand Demon for the Capture weekly. They’re the ones that follow you and tunnel out of the ground.

The Dendrome:
Grill Master

  • Starts in:
Hailol, main building, upstairs. Coords: [4027, 5491].
  • Description:
This one’s pretty straightforward. You’ll need to cook (or otherwise obtain) 12 Hot Dogs, 6 Steak Kabobs, and 10 Crystalfish Burgers.

The Great Dusken Scavenger Hunt, Part 1

seratos title

Kingdom of Pelladane:
Talk Yourself Horse

  • Starts in:
Dolcega Valley at around [7816, 5004], which is close to Fort Mazamar.
  • Description:

A talking horse, eh? It just so happens there are quite a few horses nearby. Which one will speak to you seems to be random, however. Head into Dolcego Hotsprings and hang to the very right side where there’s a farmhouse and a small barnyard full of animals at [7971, 4884]. There’s one possible talking horse. There are about five more possible horses at around [7798, 5244]. There may be other possible talking horses elsewhere, too. Just right click the horse and see if a dialog option pops up. If it neighs to you or goes “…”, move on to the next horse.

Grab your Scavenging Thunderbird while you’re in the area.

Seratos:
Skull Rain

  • Starts in:
On top of a hill in Fetid Plains around [11505, 4447], southeast of The Hollow.
  • Description:
You’ll need to search for raised skulls that are sometimes a challenge to get to and located on tops of cliffs and hills, etc. Some of the spawn points seem to be rather bugged but still can be reached with a little careful climbing and/or mount jumping and class abilities (like Tempest).

For how to get to one location with some climbing and a mount, check out this video (Note: This spawn location may only work for EU shards currently). One possible set of coordinates is at [11653, 5994].

Morban
Danse Macabre

  • Starts in:
Just southwest of Arian’s Challenge at the crossroads around [13985, 6262].
  • Description:
There are multiple spawn locations for these as well. Using a “/tar Dancing Dead” macro is a great help. There is one possible spawn location at [13535, 6575] and another at [12894 6769]. There may be more.

Steppes of Infinity:
Super Charger

  • Starts in:
The NPC is around [16625, 5709].
  • Description:
This one involves jumping platforms (shown to the right) that you’ll need to hop between by using charges that teleport you between them. Only one platform is up at a time, which makes it a little tricky, but by standing close to the charge (not underneath) and hitting the opposite charge, you’ll be teleported. A raid group is very handy for this one. Here is a list of all the platforms:
    [16505, 5881]
    [16467, 8544]
    [16874, 6507]
    [14702, 8307]
    [17004, 8355]
    [17246, 7533]
    [16175, 7184]
    [15673, 7742]

Grab a Tk’ztk Parasite nearby for Capture: Tk’ztk Parasite.

The Great Brevane Scavenger Hunt, Part 2

kingsward end

Cape Jule:
Summerfest Infestation

  • Starts in:
Tulan, dock area. Coords: [8288, 12098].
  • Description:
You’ll be tasked with capturing three skunks. They’re pretty easy to find all around the Tulan dock area. Use the quest object to snag them (just like our friends the fire squirrels!).

City Core:
A Race Through the Core

  • Starts in:
Just north of Vaud Tower at around [6724, 9834]. It takes you all the way to Eastern Holdings, however, so you may wish to do Part 1 before this one.
  • Description:
Race time! Sort of. A leisurely stroll through balloons, rather. Follow the easy-to-see balloon markers and make your way through the canals and up to the very familiar entrance to Eastern Holdings. Look, fireworks!
what a feeling path

Eastern Holdings:

What a Feeling!

  • Starts in:
Above Strozza Estate at around [8848, 7809]. It’s on top of the building, so you’ll have to go all the way to the east and find the path up (see screenshot of where that path begins to the right (click to enlarge)).
  • Description:
Go to Ursin Grove Bunker (Auroborus Woods portal) and /dance with an NPC inside. Multiple NPCs or bunkers may work. I had luck with the Mage trainer lady directly inside the first little nook.

Don’t forget about your Aurobon Stalker, which is found up near Ursin Grove Bunker.

Kingsward:
Summerfest Camping

  • Starts in:
The Armory, fairly close to the NPCs Coords: [6284, 7764].
  • Description:
You’ll want to look for smallish, abandoned campsites throughout the zone that feature fire pits. These won’t necessarily be the ones that feature tents. One is at around [5657, 8236]. Other possible locations include [4758, 8571], [6482, 7780], [5115 8491], [4258, 8398], and [3987, 8395]. You’re looking for one that has a sparkly fire pit specifically. Upon clicking the fire pit, the full campsite will spawn.

Ardent Domain:
A Sticky Seacap Situation

  • Starts in:
Turnis River Bunker, right outside the entrance. Coords: [5637, 9457].
  • Description:
Here you’re looking for friendly seacaps that have a slight green glow. They seem to spawn in clumps around the Turnis River and around Witch’s Thicket. They may be near the water near Auditorium Carnos as well. They’re always found on the land next to water. Use the quest item on four of them. A “/tar Sticky Seacap” macro would work well here too.

Ashora:
Desert Conquest

  • Starts in:
The very northern point of the map, close to the ocean. The three NPCs are around [2372, 5465]. Take either the K’Rom’s Fortress or Arjuros port and prepare for a bit of a hike.
  • Description:
For fun, choose your favorite Conquest faction and then you’ll be tasked with finding Pristine Sand and a bucket of oasis water. It doesn’t seem like the faction matters (feel free to correct me). Leave it to Trion to task us to find sand in a huge desert map! The sand piles seem to spawn randomly like most scavenger hunt objectives. They sparkle. Possible spawn points include [2968, 6515], [3559, 6725], and [2172, 7097].

The water is found at Jurota Lakes at [3445, 6720]. Use the quest item bucket. After grabbing both, return to the middle-of-nowhere NPCs and use the new abilities that pop up to build your sand castle. You’ll have to alternate between using sand and water and each wall/tower of the castle should build up. After the castle’s built, the quest will complete.

The Dendrome:
Seashells by the Seashore

  • Starts in:
Hailol, main building, upstairs. Coords: [4038, 5586].
  • Description:
You’ll want to gather seashells along the seashore, of course, so head on over to the west coast of The Dendrome, where you can find little sparkly shells and starfish to gather. Not all shells you loot will count for the quest, but there seem to be plenty along the shore, luckily.

The Crown Conch Shells and Ember Starfish can be found in the Hive Az’Zgez area while the Rock Oyster Shells can be found south in the Hive Zg’Kaa area near the ships.

The Great Dusken Scavenger Hunt, Part 2

morban title

Kingdom of Pelladane:
Road Trip

  • Starts in:
Right outside Fort Mazamar at around [8201, 4970].
  • Description:
This one’s pretty fun. Sign the petition then be whisked off to the pathway above the city. Mount up and make your way across, running through the green circles for speed boosts. At the end of a roadway, run through the yellow circles to get propelled to the next racecourse.

Seratos:
Scotophobia

  • Starts in:
North of The Crawl, along the ocean at around [9523, 3120]. Go around all the Akvorians and into a nook where there’s a vendor and your spider NPC.
  • Description:
The entrance to the bone maze is located at [12053, 4337] in Fetid Plains. The egg sac you’re looking for once inside the maze is in the center-ish area of the second level. The maze itself is an interesting one. Here are some great tips from one of our readers (thanks Stormbow!) on how to best navigate the maze and find the egg sac:

“The maze alternates from Maze A (when you enter) to Maze B (after about 20 seconds) and continues alternating back and forth. The ramp to level 2 is found on Level 1 of Maze B. Search Maze B for the ramp leading up to the 2nd floor. If the maze goes dark (meaning it has changed back to Maze A) before you find the ramp, DO NOT MOVE AT ALL. Let the maze cycle back to Maze B, and continue your search. When you find the ramp to level 2, let the maze change back to Maze A, and head for the northeast corner of the maze. You’ll find the clickable egg in that area.”

Grab your Dreg Beast near the Darkrun Wreckage port.

Morban
Estranged Brew

    Starts in:
This NPC seems to move around a bit. There are around six possible points where he might spawn at. All are marked on the map. Whether the spawns are time-based or related to acceptance/completion of the quest is undetermined.
  • Description:
You’ll need to collect six different types of boozes. These spawn points are in various locations as well. Possible locations include:

    [14362, 7410] or [13360, 4949] (inside), [14390, 5298], or [14365, 7407] for Blortt’s Brown “Ale”.
[13099, 6408] or [13643, 7393] (inside keep) for Golden Flow Lager.
    [14500, 6392], [12520, 7533], or [12572, 5645] for Stout of the Tormented.
    [13690, 6464], [13690, 5464], or [14682, 6758] for Porter of Potential Potency.
[15270, 5146] (inside) or [14911, 6246] for Pilsner of Punishment.
    [13066, 7967], [14182, 7192], and [13852, 7097] for Harry’s Hoppin’ Hops IPA.

If you need additional help with these and know your way around addons, check out the comments section for some TomTom addon code.

The Carrion Beast for Capture: Carrion Beast can be found just north of Camp Landfall.

Steppes of Infinity:
Trollin’ For Treasure

  • Starts in:
NPC is found at [15001, 8823].
  • Description:
You’ll need 20 piles of gold for this one. The mounds of treasure spawn fairly close to the NPC– just east of it in fact. They don’t need to be picked up, but rather just ran over while mounted. This one can be completed fairly quick.
